Kilimanjaro, with its 5895 meters, is located in Tanzania. This extinct volcano is the highest peak in Africa. All mountain lovers are full of praise for its beauty with, at its feet the jungle, and at its summit the glaciers. This 16-day challenge also includes climbing Mount Meru as an essential acclimatization walk to success on Kilimanjaro. A 3-day safari is also integrated into the package. Finally, you will not forget to warmth of the Tanzanian people, their smiles, and their sense of rhythm and music.

Itinerary

Day 0: Flights to Tanzania
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, transfer and personalized welcome on arrival
Day 2-4: Safari: Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara Park and Tarangire National Park

Day 5 ARUSHA / Miriakamba HUT
Depart Arusha and transfer to Momella Gate. 5 hour climb up to Miriakamba Hut at 2500 m.
Day 6 Miriakamba HUT / SADDLE HUT
Trek through a tropical forest before you reach Saddle Hut (3500 m) 4 hours later. Option for a round trip up to Little Meru 3800m.
Day 7 SADDLE HUT / MT MERU / ARUSHA (1:00)
Leave at night for the final push to the summit of Meru (4562 m). Back to the plain.
Day 8 Rest day in Arusha, preparations for Kilimanjaro

KILIMANJARO

Day 9:  Depart for the Kilimanjaro National Park. Camping Mti Mkubwa (2900m).

Day 10:  MKUBWA MTI / SHIRA CAMP : The first signs of the Afro-alpine flora, above 3400 m. Set-up at Shira Camp (3610 m).
Day 11:  SHIRA CAMP / FISHER'S CAMP: Exploration Day of the Shira Plateau. Set-up bivouac at Fisher's Camp (3800 m).
Day 12:  FISHER'S CAMP / BARRANCO: Trek to Lava Tower at 4570 m and then descend to Barranco Camp. Set-up camp at 3940m.
PorteursDay 13: BARRANCO / BARAFU
Climbing up the Breach Wall to 4200 meters. The trail continues on the southern flank of the volcano with many ups and downs. The trail then leads to BARAFU camp at 4600m.
Day 14:  BARAFU / CRATER CAMP
From BARAFU, we climb to 5 600m and Crater camp. Optional visit of the Kilimanjaro crater and sulfur smoke stacks.
Day 15:  CRATER CAMP / UHURU PEAK / MWEKA
SommetAround 6am, you reach the summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters above sea level. Photos, congratulations, maybe embraces and then it is time to go down. Descend to Mweka camp at 3 000m
Day 16:  MWEKA / ARUSHA
Descend to Mweka village at 1700 meters, your driver will be waiting to take you to Arusha
Day 17:  ARUSHA
Free day in Arusha then private evening transfer to Kilimanjaro airport

*** On March 10th 2015, our family of 4 climbers reached the summit of Kilimanjaro after a long day. Congratulations to the team, congratulations on your perseverance.


*** On March 2, 2015, at 6h15am, 14 of the 16 climbers of the CHEO Foundation have successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to 5896 meters above the level of the sea. Congratulations to the 16 that pushed to their limits to realize a dream and contribute to CHEO projects.

*** On 7 February 2013, 23 climbers started their trip to Tanzania in order to climb Kilimanjaro to benefit the Foundation of the CSSS de Gatineau. Nineteen of the 23 people managed to get to the top, to the roof of Africa at 5896 meters.
